The African Roots
of Swiss Design:
This poster series visually interprets Audrey Bennett’s article The African Roots of Swiss Design’s Golden Ratio, which explores how African art and design traditions have deeply influenced the foundations of Swiss design. Each poster celebrates this cross-cultural lineage by layering bold typography, organic textures, and symbolic imagery rooted in geography and history.
I used color palettes and paper-like textures to evoke cultural depth and materiality. The golden ratio spiral is subtly integrated throughout, referencing the mathematical concepts central to both African and Swiss design aesthetics. Geographic overlays and African continent silhouettes ground the work in place and story, while the type treatment brings rhythm and visual tension.
This project merges research, storytelling, and experimental composition, honoring the narrative and legacy of African aesthetics in modernist design systems.
